Cycle for Palestine: Babs MacGregor

In 2016, Babs joined MAP's Cycle Palestine, a 230km bike ride tackling the heat and the hills of the West Bank. Following this event, Babs has decided to take on another cycling challenge this year to show her support for Palestinians, London to Glasgow: Cycle for Palestine 2017.

Read about her epic journey through the West Bank and why Babs is taking on this year's challenge.

'Last year I cycled through Bethlehem and the West Bank with fellow MAP supporters on a journey that opened my eyes, heart and mind to the injustices of the illegal occupation.'

Along with 23 other supporters, Babs cycled from the northernmost point in the West Bank to the lowest point on earth, The Dead Sea, and finished their 6-day cycle challenge in The Old City of Jerusalem.

This year, Babs is joining MAP again on a cycle challenge from London to Glasgow, 4-9 July. The event will take cyclists out of the buzz of the city through some of the UK's most scenic countryside, before reaching Glasgow City Centre. Participants can join for the day, the weekend or the full tour.

'I live in Glasgow which is twinned with Bethlehem. The fact that our destination is Glasgow, a city whose council dared to fly the Palestinian Flag while Gaza was being bombed, makes me proud. The city's slogan is People Make Glasgow, but during the demos at that time banners were flown with "People Make Gaza" The cycle this summer is essentially the return leg of the trip we took last September.'

'I turn 50 this year myself, the same length of time that Palestinians have lived through occupation, another very personal reason to sign up for this ride.'

Inspired to show your support? Join Babs and hundreds of other cyclists either for a day cycle, the weekend or the full tour in this year's London to Glasgow: Cycle for Palestine 2017
