Dr Philippa Whitford MP returns to Palestine to review breast cancer care capacity

This spring, Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) again supported breast cancer surgeon and Member of Parliament, Dr Philippa Whitford, to travel to the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) as part of our continuing programme of work to improve breast cancer care for Palestinian women.

In Gaza and the West Bank Dr Whitford reviewed quality standards in breast cancer care. This was Philippa’s fourth year in a row to travel to the oPt with MAP’s breast cancer programme.

In the interview below, Dr Whitford talks from Gaza about the progress made by local health care workers with MAP’s support to diagnose, refer and treat patients with breast cancer. She discusses the successful implementation of multi-disciplinary team (MDT) working, where a patient with breast cancer is cared for by a team of healthcare professionals, each with their own expertise. This is strong principle of cancer care in the UK and a way of working which the MAP-supported visiting medics have been demonstrating and promoting to local teams.

I’m absolutely delighted in the progress they have made in one a half years and wish them well in the future.” Dr Philippa Whitford

With your help, we are able to support Palestinian women with breast cancer by bringing medical delegations, with UK specialists like Dr Whitford, to the occupied Palestinian territory. Please donate today:
