This month, members of the UK’s Royal College of Surgeons travelled to Gaza with Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) to continue developing surgical skills amongst local Palestinian health workers.
“There is always a wonderful buzz around our visits which is so heart-warming and rewarding. I am pleased to say that we are making a real impact for a population of two million and it is the most important project that I have been involved with at the college. We can learn a lot from this collaboration. We are establishing a self-sustaining model using local faculty to improve healthcare throughout Gaza.” - Professor Shafi Ahmed PhD, FRCS, FRCS (Gen. Mahmoud Shalabi, MAP’s Manager of Emergency and Medical Training Programmes, has produced a short video following the visiting medics’ time in Gaza, including the delivery of Gaza’s first Surgical Master Class.
