Israel's devastating attack on Jabalia refugee camp should be a wake-up call to world leaders

Following Israel’s attack on Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza today which killed dozens of civilians and injured many more, Melanie Ward, Chief Executive of Medical Aid for Palestinians said:

"Israel's devastating attack on Jabalia refugee camp today has killed dozens of civilians and injured many more. Most of the wounded will not receive adequate emergency care, as the healthcare system is close to collapse amid Israel's bombardments and siege.

“This attack marks a new low and should serve as a wake-up call to world leaders and politicians everywhere. Their meek requests for compliance with international law are being ignored entirely; Israel has instead increased the ferocity of its indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks. One child is being killed every 10 minutes as a result, and entire families obliterated.

"We are deeply concerned for the welfare of the 2.2 million people in Gaza, particularly the 400,000 civilians that remain in northern areas, who are under siege and intensifying bombardment. The threat to their lives grows with each passing hour.

"Impunity must end. World leaders must make it clear to Israel that flagrant violations of international law, including indiscriminate attacks on civilians, will be met with genuine consequences. And they should work with great urgency to secure a ceasefire and bring this bloodshed to an end."
