Last week, MAP joined the UK in mourning the death of Jo Cox MP. As well as being a principled social justice campaigner inside and outside of Parliament, Jo was a vocal advocate of the Palestinian people, and member of the humanitarian community having worked at Oxfam and the anti-slavery campaign group The Freedom Fund.
Paying tribute to Jo this week, MAP CEO Tony Laurance said:
“On behalf of the whole team at Medical Aid for Palestinians, I express our deepest sadness at the death of Jo Cox. Both as a humanitarian worker and an MP, Jo devoted her career to the tireless pursuit of rights and justice for some of the world’s most vulnerable people. She was a keen advocate on behalf of the Palestinians, and fought passionately for an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
“We, and entire humanitarian sector, mourn her tragic loss. Our thoughts are with her family and all who loved her at this time.”
On the occasion of her birthday on 22nd June, Jo’s family and friends have called for a celebration of her life and the causes she stood for, and her belief that there is more that unites us than divides us.
Medical Aid for Palestinians shares these values of kindness, tolerance and unity, and our teams in the UK and the occupied Palestinian territory have joined together under the #MoreInCommon banner to show our support.
