A ceasefire that brought an end to three days of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza in August has so far held, but Gaza’s struggling healthcare system is still reeling from the offensive. Health services are suffering severe shortages. 40% of drugs and 20% of medical consumables are currently at zero stock, with only one month’s supply left. Hospitals in Gaza were forced temporarily to halt elective surgeries and outpatient clinic services to prioritise the emergency.
In addition, the health system in Gaza is still recovering from Israel’s 11-day military assault in May 2021 and four deadly waves of COVID-19. This in the context of 15 years of illegal closure and blockade, that has created a humanitarian crisis which deteriorates year-on-year.
MAP has responded to the recent emergency in Gaza by releasing prepositioned medicines and disposables. Longer-term, we aim to replenish our pre-positioned stock worth US$260,000. We are also providing trauma training for Palestinian health workers to enhance their ability to respond to emergencies.
With your support, MAP can help ensure that hospitals have the medical resources they need right now. Thank you for your support.
