MAP statement on proposed entry restrictions on NGOs
We are aware that an Israeli minister has recommended barring MAP and several other British organisations, from entering Israel.
This comes a day after the UK Government recognised Israel’s occupation as unlawful under international law, and announced a ban on imports from illegal settlements, decisions we welcomed. It follows Israel’s existing pattern of denying entry to British charities, international journalists and UK Parliamentarians who have spoken out about Israel’s unlawful occupation and atrocities in Gaza. It forms part of Israeli authorities’ wider restrictions on international charities operating in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Two of the MAP individuals mentioned in the Israeli minister’s letter were among those awarded the first ever Humanitarian Medals by His Majesty King Charles, awarded to individuals for their support of human welfare during or in the aftermath of a crisis. Our CEO was also mentioned.
For over 40 years, MAP has provided medical assistance to Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. Our Palestinian-led teams and trusted local partners will continue to deliver lifesaving work to the communities we serve.
