New poll findings: British public opinion on Israeli military actions

These findings* come as Israel’s genocide in Gaza continues despite the so-called ceasefire agreement, enacted through its blocking of critical aid entry and continued bombardment, with more than 800 Palestinians killed in military attacks since the ‘ceasefire’ agreement.

In the West Bank, Palestinians face escalating illegal settlement expansion and settler attacks, along with intensified efforts by Israeli authorities to cement its de jure annexation, racial segregation and apartheid.

Key findings:

A new YouGov poll, commissioned by MAP, has found that over 6 in 10 (62%) of the British public oppose Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza and the West Bank, while just 13% are in support.

Crucially, the poll highlights a significant gulf between British public sentiment and the UK Government, finding that more than half (54%) of the British public support the UK government ending all arms exports to Israel, including parts for F-35 jets which have continued to flow to Israel throughout its ongoing genocide in Gaza, compared to just 22% in opposition.

This figure, echoing similar findings (55% supported ending arms sales during the conflict in Gaza in May 2024, rising to 58% in July 2024), demonstrates durable support for a suspension of arms sales, more than six months since the ceasefire agreement came into effect, and after the US-Israeli war on Iran.

The poll also found that 60% of the British public opposed Israel’s current military actions in Lebanon, ahead of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on 16 April, in contrast to 14% in support.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israeli military attacks on Lebanese civilian infrastructure and healthcare services have continued.
