Our latest film highlights how the Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP)-supported mobile clinic is providing essential primary health care services to marginalised communities in the southern West Bank.
Access to healthcare is a persistent challenge for Palestinian communities located in Area C, the 60% of the occupied West Bank under full Israeli military and civil control.
While most of Area C has been allocated for the benefit of Israeli settlements built illegally in the West Bank or for the use of the Israeli military, Palestinian communities face numerous restrictions to accessing basic needs such as water, electricity, adequate housing and healthcare. A discriminatory planning regime means that, while Israeli settlements contain modern clinics and hospitals, there are no permanent healthcare centres for Palestinians anywhere in Area C. Movement restrictions such as checkpoints and roadblocks present additional barriers and potentially serious delays to accessing Palestinian healthcare centres in other areas.
MAP partners with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) to provide a mobile clinic for marginalised Palestinian communities in the southern Hebron governorate of the West Bank. The mobile clinic team consist of a general practitioner, lab technician, two health workers, driver and rehabilitation specialist, who serve at least 2,736 people living in six isolated communities.
This team provide medical check-ups and examinations, essential women's and children's health services, and essential medications. It also provides health education, which has been particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can read more about the clinic and its impact here.
