Patient killed inside MAP-supported health centre after Israeli military quadcopter attack

MAP’s medical partner organisation, Al-Awda Health and Community Association, has confirmed that the patient, a 65-year-old man, was attending the centre to receive treatment when an Israeli military quadcopter shot him. Despite efforts by medical staff to treat him, he later died from his injuries.

The centre is located in the Halawa area of Jabalia, close to the “Yellow Line” established under the October 2025 “ceasefire” to mark the boundary for Israeli military control. Israeli forces have since advanced beyond it and now control around 70% of Gaza. The attack comes just two weeks after Israeli forces advanced towards Kamal Adwan Hospital, around 150 metres from the “Yellow Line”. The hospital provides primary and emergency healthcare to children, women and the elderly.

At the time of the incident, Al-Awda staff were providing medical care, and a UN delegation was visiting the facility to observe health services being delivered to the community.

Huda Diab, Project Manager at Al-Awda Health and Community Association, said: "This is not the first time our centre has come under fire from quadcopters or aerial gunfire in the area. This centre serves displaced people in Jabalia and has repeatedly been exposed to gunfire from the Israeli army.

"Most previous incidents involved gunfire directed towards tents or the areas surrounding the centre. This time, however, the centre itself was directly targeted, resulting in a patient who had come to receive treatment being shot and seriously injured. We did everything we could to treat him, but unfortunately he later died from his injuries."

Aseel Baidoun, Deputy Director of Advocacy and Communications at MAP, said: “When a patient is killed inside a health centre by Israeli forces, the damage does not end with one life. It can leave an entire community, already living on the brink, afraid to seek treatment. People who are sick, injured, or dying may now decide that going to a health centre is a gamble not worth taking.

"In Gaza, over two million of people are already struggling to reach the healthcare they need, while Israel's advancing Yellow Line swallows up the few remaining, functional health services still providing lifesaving care.

"The killing of patients, the destruction of health facilities and the denial of medical care cannot be separated from the wider pattern of Israel's ongoing genocide across Gaza. There must be a full, independent investigation, and those responsible must be held to account."
