Qusra attack highlights escalating state-backed violence as West Bank healthcare attacks quadruple in one month

Aisha Mansour, MAP’s West Bank Director, said “What we are seeing in Qusra is what happens when state-backed violence becomes part of everyday life for Palestinians. Families are being intimidated in their own homes, cut off from water and electricity, and denied the protection they are entitled to while settlers and soldiers act with total impunity. We should be clear: deliberately stripping away the basic essentials people need to live and remain in their communities is part of a wider and deliberate campaign of ethnic cleansing across the West Bank."

“This is not simply settler violence carried out by individuals. It is happening with the full backing and protection of the Israeli state. Our teams are seeing the consequences of this impunity every day, as attacks on healthcare in the West Bank more than quadrupled last month* – the highest monthly total recorded this year."

“Israel, as the occupying power, is violating its duty to protect Palestinians and ensure their basic needs are met. The UK Government must act now: ban all trade with illegal Israeli settlements and take immediate steps to stop the escalating violence and prevent the erasure of entire Palestinian communities."

According to a WHO report released earlier this week:

• There were 98 attacks on healthcare in the West Bank between 1 January and 31 July 2026, including 87 fatalities
• Attacks on healthcare more than quadrupled, from 8 in June to 37 in July alone
• This year alone, WHO has recorded attacks on 83 ambulances and other health transport, and 11 attacks on health facilities themselves, across the West Bank.
• Between 1 January and 31 July, WHO documented 92 incidents involving obstruction of healthcare and 66 incidents use of force against healthcare
• 925 movement obstacles now block Palestinians across the West Bank — checkpoints, closures during military operations, sieges on hospitals, and restrictions that stop ambulances reaching the critically injured, according to WHO.
