A ceasefire deal is a glimmer of hope – but Israeli forces are still killing Palestinians, and Gaza’s healthcare system lies in ruins. The UK Government cannot look away.
The UK must do everything it can to ensure a permanent end to Israel’s genocide and blockade – and that it does not come at the expense of an even further escalation of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.
We cannot allow for a return to the previous status quo. Israel’s atrocities cannot go unpunished, and its illegal occupation and apartheid must finally be brought to an end. A sustainable peace will only be possible if there is justice.

We are calling on the UK Government to urgently:
Israel’s attacks have included widespread and deliberate targeting of Gaza’s healthcare system. Hospitals, ambulances, medical staff and even patients have come under fire. Under the Fourth Geneva Convention, medical facilities and personnel must be protected at all times. Yet since October 2023, Gaza’s health system has been under intense siege, with repeated bombardments, forced evacuations, and blockades of medical supplies – now Gaza’s healthcare system has been systematically destroyed and will take years and billions of dollars to rebuild according to the WHO.
In September 2025, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, found that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The Commission urged all States to fulfil their legal obligations under international law to end the genocide and punish those responsible for it, including by “ceasing all transfers of arms, munitions, parts and components that may contribute to maintaining the unlawful occupation or used to commit violations of international law.
The International Court of Justice found that Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza is unlawful, and outlined states’ obligations not to aid Israel in maintaining it and cooperate to end this situation. This includes ceasing all military and security support and suspending all arms sales to Israel, regardless of whether or not there is a ceasefire in Gaza.
While the UK Government has taken limited steps to restrict arms exports, critical loopholes remain - including the continued export of F-35 components - leaving the UK complicit in the devastation Israel’s military assault has inflicted. The UK must immediately suspend all arms transfers to Israel, including the provision of parts for F-35 fighter jets, which have been used in airstrikes across Gaza.
Impunity breeds further atrocities. The UK must support full accountability for all perpetrators of violations of international law in the occupied Palestinian territory. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the use of starvation as a weapon of war.
Among the gravest violations has been the systematic targeting of Gaza’s healthcare system. Medical workers have been killed while performing their duties. Hospitals have been bombed. Patients and displaced civilians sheltering in health facilities have been attacked or forcibly evacuated. These are not isolated incidents, they form part of a broader pattern of targeting civilian infrastructure and constitute serious breaches of international humanitarian law.
The UK cannot remain selective in how it applies international law. It must take decisive political, economic and diplomatic measures to ensure a permanent end to Israel’s atrocities in Gaza and Israel’s impunity and send a clear message that war crimes will be met with accountability. This must include clearly signalling that the ICC’s arrest warrants relating to the Situation in Palestine will be upheld.
The UK must take active steps to bring an end to Israel’s unlawful occupation of the Palestinian territory. In July 2024, the International Court of Justice reaffirmed that Israel’s prolonged occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza is unlawful under international law. It found that all states are obligated not to recognise or aid the maintenance of this unlawful situation. The UK must therefore take steps to suspend the UK’s existing trade agreement with Israel; enact legislation to prohibit trade with illegal Israeli settlements, and suspend cooperation with sectors of Israel’s economy involved in maintaining the illegal occupation.
Any future policy must be rooted in ending the occupation and supporting a just political resolution based on international law and that ensures Palestinian self-determination. The UK must not only condemn the occupation in words but actively work to bring it to an end. It is imperative that the world does not allow Israel to continue to have effective control Palestinian life, movement and access of the oPt, as well as full impunity to commit atrocities against Palestinians.
