Lebanon is experiencing its worst ever economic crisis. The value of the local currency has collapsed, and inflation has reached an all-time-high. Hospitals are reporting severe shortages of essential medicines, equipment, and 1,000 healthcare workers have left the country, leaving a huge gap in providing lifesaving care at this pivotal moment.
This crisis is disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable people, particularly the 250,000 Palestinian refugees living in camps across Lebanon.
Poverty rates have doubled whilst food prices have quadrupled since 2019. Many Palestinian refugees are simply unable to afford basic food supplies and are skipping meals as a result. Basic food items and drugs are disappearing from shops and pharmacies as suppliers find it increasingly difficult to re-stock.
MAP is gravely concerned about the likely impact of worsening acute and chronic malnutrition rates in young children and pregnant/breastfeeding women, as we know that rates of serious illness and death will rise as a result.

MAP urgently need your support to help respond to these emergency needs, as we closely monitor the situation over the coming months. The rapidly rising poverty and food insecurity levels will inevitably lead to a malnutrition crisis, particularly for young children and pregnant/breastfeeding women.
